First Amazon fulfillment center in Michigan opens in Livonia

First Amazon fulfillment center in Michigan opens in Livonia
24 Mar 2018

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder was among a handful of officials on hand for the grand opening of Amazon’s first fulfillment center in Michigan on Friday morning.

The center, located on Amrhein Rd. in Livonia, is more than 1 million square feet – equal to about 28 football fields.

In all, Amazon said there were 30-35 firms hired to construct the building, which led to 500 construction jobs in the metro area.

“Our fulfillment network supports millions of businesses of all sizes worldwide through our fulfillment by Amazon offering,” the release read. “There are more than 65,000 authors, sellers, and developers in Michigan growing their businesses and reaching new customers on Amazon products and services.”

This is the third operational Amazon facility in metro Detroit, joining the Brownstown sort center and Detroit corporate office.

Two other fulfillment centers, in Romulus and Shelby Township, are expected to open in the future.

Last summer, Amazon put the call out to hire nearly 1,000 workers for several positions at the Amazon fulfillment center in Livonia.

More than 1,000 workers are expected to be hired at the Shelby Township fulfillment center and 1,500 workers at the Romulus center.
