Using his average net worth growth over the last five years (34%), the folks at Comparisun are estimating that he could be a trillionaire by the year 2026.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is expected to become the world’s first trillionaire by 2026, according to Comparisun, a company that compares different products between small and medium-sized firms.
Bezos is now valued at $140 billion, up from the $125 billion he was valued at – largely thanks to a surge in Amazon’s share price which has been immune to COVID-19.
And that’s also despite the S&P500 stock index down almost 12 per cent since the beginning of the year. Amazon sales reached $75.5 billion in Q1 2020.
Bezos’ current net worth is estimated to be $143 billion, according to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index, which has increased by $28 billion since past year.
If his net worth does reach $1 trillion, he’d be worth more than the individual GDPs of 179 countries with a combined population of 3.4 billion – 43.7 percent of all humans alive, the outlet reported.
Bezos journey to trillionaire status is being tracked by Comparisun, which looked at the growth rate of the world’s 25 richest people and 25 highest-valued companies on the New York Stock Exchange, calculating yearly percentage growth over the last five years.
Bezos’ roaring wealth comes amid anger over how Amazon has handled the public health crisis.
Workers said they were concerned they were taking the disease home to vulnerable family members, and that they felt they were being taken advantage of.
